THE POWER OF NEW

We all are intrigued by new things. New sales, new phones, new cars, new experiences. Around the holidays we are bombarded with sales pitches. The only problem is, these things fade. The excitement wears off and the products become outdated. But the newness and freshness of the Holy Spirit is eternal! "Drink from this water, and you'll never thirst again."

THE POWER OF NEW

Everyone loves new things: at Christmas time especially
Show a few “new” items, 2 cars, drill press, computer, purse, fanny pack
Back to sermon:
In Isaiah God says, I am doing a new thing
What is He talking about? How can anything in Christianity be new….it’s old.
How does this apply to me here and now?
Lets read
Isaiah 43:18-19
Do you know the setting of these words? These words were originally meant to be words of comfort for people in captivity. God’s chosen people were going to be overrun by a foreign nation called Babylon. The Jews would be taken far away from their homeland. There they would reminisce about the “old days:” “Remember when God rescued us from Egypt? Remember when God parted the Red Sea and defeated all the nations that stood in our way? He did all that for us. Those were the days!”
God was telling the people, that while he did some amazing things for them in the past, they haven’t seen anything yet.
Even if they escaped from their captors, they would never make it through the desert. But God was going to do the impossible – he was going to set up a highway for them to walk on. He was going to provide water for them as they journeyed back to the promised land: Vs 20-21 - “The wild animals honor me, and the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the desert and streams in the wasteland to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for myself, that they may proclaim my praise.” Even the wild animals would notice all the good things God was doing for his people. Not only would those animals praise God, but the people of Israel would praise God too, for all the amazing new things God was planning to do for his people.
Can you see Christ in these words I have read to you this morning? God says, “I am making a way in the desert.” Jesus says, “I am The Way, the truth, and the life.” God says, “I am making streams in the wasteland.” Jesus says, “Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst.”
There is POWER in NEW!
This is why NEW is appealing to us, and why catalogues and sales WORK!
We must use what God has been using for centuries…the power of new! We all want it, that new car, that new computer, that new phone! But the excitement over all that stuff fades, because there’s always something bigger and better coming out.
But the message of the king DOESN’T FADE!!!!
However, we can become lax in our walk with the Lord, never experiencing anything new.
Vs 22-25
You don’t DESERVE it, but if you’ll hear what I’m saying right now……..God will do something NEW in your life!
If you will get out of your old tired boring shell……..do something new…….God will bring you through the desert into a brand new land!
Start by doing something new and fresh in your communication with God!
The number Christmas song of all time” White Christmas - According to the Guinness Book of World Records, "White Christmas" by Bing Crosby is not only the best-selling Christmas/holiday single in the United States, but also the best-selling single of all time, with estimated sales in excess of 50 million copies worldwide.
Why is everyone dreaming of a white Christmas? It makes everything new. It covers. It purifies. You can’t see the dirt, the brown grass, the dirty streets or sidewalks…the snow makes everything beautiful.
Isn’t that what God does with your sin? He covers it up! All that dirt in your life, all that sin – God blots it out – it’s covered – not by snow, but by something different, by a new thing. And that new thing is the blood of Jesus Christ. When Jesus shed his blood on the cross, he was covering your sins, blotting out your transgressions. Because of Jesus, your life is beautiful in the eyes of God – your sins are forgiven.
Someday, when you stand before God on Judgment Day, you won’t have to worry that God will remind you of your sins. God won’t say to you, “Remember when you did this? Remember when you said that?” Because of Christ, God, as it says right here, “remembers our sins no more.” And while we may all dream of a white Christmas….it does melt.
But the blood of Christ is eternal
