3 best ways to do it

Testimony

The Way of the Master

Well I’ll just live a good life, and people will see God radiating through me, and that will be my testimony and my witness to people.  God loves you, He’s great, life is great with Jesus, He will solve your problems, etc….

well that’s not quit good enough, and here’s why…

Well what about sin?  what about repentance?  What about the law?  Well we’re saved by grace, not the law.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don’t fall victim to that teaching.

MATTHEW 7:21-23

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

The Law - The church that preaches love, good things, better life, Jesus is your friend, come to Jesus, etc…..without the conviction of sin punishable by death, is giving false promises, and creating false converts.  Evangelism must start with the law.

NKJ Proverbs 6:23- the commandment is the lamp, and the law is the light.

it exposes sin the way light exposes dust

NKJ Romans 3:20 - For by the law is the knowledge of sin

NKJ Romans 7:13 - that sin by the commandment might become exceedingly sinful

NKJ Romans 7:7 - I would not have known sin except through the law

paul is saying that if it weren’t for the law, i would’t know what sin is.  well if paul doesn’t know….

NIV 1 Timothy 1:8 - we know that the law is good when used correctly

so how can we use the law correctly..for it’s purpose?

(Just read, not on screen )1 Tim 1:9 - knowing this…that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for sinners

You want to reach sinners?  use the law.  People KNOW even if they think they don’t.  it’s written on their hearts.  people have a conviction or feel guilty, etc…. You have a sense of right and wrong…bc……

Romans 2:15 - who show the work of the law written into their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness

God put an ally right in the middle of the enemy’s camp, which we call the conscience.  God’s law shows him that he’s guilty

If you don’t get this right according to the LAW, the bible says you will be held accountable for every thought, word, and deed

    Matthew 12:36, 2 Cornith 10:5, Romans 14:12, 2 Cornith 5:10

You don’t go to people and say, Jesus loves you, say this pray and really mean it.  or let me talk to you about Jesus.  That’s not how the master did it, nor his disciples or most all other powerful preachers throughout history.  Why?

[just say it ]1 Cornith 1:18 - the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing

So How?

Romans 1:19, Romans 1:18 - They know the truth bc God has made it obvious to them, but 18 they suppress the truth in unrighteousness

Romans 2:15 - Gods law is written in their hearts and either accuses them, or tells them they are doing right

[Proverbs 20:6]

You start with the natural, then switch to the spiritual

Start off by talking about “stuff.”  Work, weather, sports, fashion, etc.  Do it genuinely and ask them questions.  Just quickly.

Then deliberately change to the spiritual.  It takes courage.

Give them the 10 Commandments.  or..Let me ask you, so you know 10 com….?

    Have you kept them?

Would you consider yourself a good person?

    Lied?

Have you ever taken anything that doesn’t belong to you?

yeah but it’s in the past.  well so what, everything is in the past, it doesn’t make         it irrelevant.

    Blasphemy ?   [Matthew 12:36]

    Have you ever lusted?

Well it’s like it’s murder.  But the Bible says hate = murder 1 John 3:15

    covet?

    honor parents?

Has God always been first in your life?

So if God judged you when you died, based on these facts, innocent or guilty

Guilty - would that mean Heaven or hell?

most people will still say, Heaven.  “Isn’t God the God of love and forgiving of sins and so I’ll still go to Heaven.”  Where do they get that from?  from modern evangelism.

So you’ve relied on yourself to rule you.  (idolatry), a God your’e comfortable with

Yeah but He’s supposed to be a good God, why would He send me to hell?

Try that in court of law.

He said He would judge us.  Why are we to think He won’t?

        1 Corinth 6:9-10…here’s your list

Now with this knowledge, he now knows he has sinned and violated God’s laws (Prov 6:23)

Now you can give him the gospel.  Jesus died a horrible death, and rose again.  He did it to pay the fine that we were supposed to pay.  In order to receive this gift, you must repent of your sins, completely, turn away, 180.  And second put your faith in Jesus.  Not your faith in yourself, but in Jesus.  1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

courtroom example again.  He doesn’t just forgive us.  He pays for us.  and we are acquitted from the crime, and dismissed from the courtroom.  this is where justice and mercy come together….on the cross.

Now the person has come to Christ for the right reasons.  Not because of some pie in the sky philosophy that produces false converts.

and NOW, he can experience true love, true peace, and true happiness bc he is reconciled with God and is fit for the kingdom.  The greek word fit in Luke 9:62 means USEFUL.  now he is useful in the kingdom of God…….aka  a Disciple!

That’s not going to work.  IT DOES WORK.

John Wesley said “preach 90% law and 10% grace.”  Wow! that seems crazy by todays standards, but it used to be the norm.

Doctor and disease example 9 minutes on seriousness of it, test results, etc.  1 min on cure.  that’s all you need to be committed to that cure.

Most people don’t go to church bc they don’t think they need it.

Why would a healthy person go to the doctor?

But when you shine God’s light on it….it exposes the “dust”

How to start a conversation with someone.

Hi

give gospel tracts

or

ask them about something marvelous around them,

then, what do you think being a Christian is all about?

you tell me what you think, and then i’ll tell you what I believe, fair enough?

what is Christmas all about? or Easter?  or Halloween…what do you think happens when a person dies? or…..Do an illusion.  What do you think the biggest illusion is in the world?  ComiCon…are there any people dressed up as heroes?  a hero would sacrifice himself for others.  does a person have to be a good person to be a hero?  I’ve got a test that can sort of help with taking a look at who is a good person.  are you up for the test?

New Years Resolution….to be a good person….

ask…would you consider yourself a good person?

Ask them their opinion of stuff…

Do you have a Christian background?

What is the most important commodity?  their life….

What is the greatest act of love?  dying for friend….how bout enemy

Why do you think there is so much evil in the world?

Who goes to Heaven and who goes to Hell

You’re plan A.  And as far as I can tell, there is no plan B.  You’re it!
